Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that catcher Brian Navarreto has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a left wrist sprain and that catcher Rainis Silva will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins signed Silva as a non-drafted free agent on July 9, 2012 and he spent last season with the GCL Twins, batting .270 with nine doubles and 20 RBI in 41 games.
Navarreto was batting .138 (8-58) with two RBI in 16 games for the Kernels this season. He has thrown out 74% of runners attempting a stolen base this year (five stolen bases in 19 attempts).
Silva will join the team in Appleton, WI and be available for tonight's 6:35 PM game at Wisconsin. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with eight players currently on the DL and one player on the restricted list.
The Kernels begin a six game road trip tonight at 6:35 PM at Wisconsin. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, May 11th and open a seven game home stand with games against Peoria and Quad Cities.
