Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.- Quad Cities' pitching staff showed a glimpse of the team's 19-6 start as they held the Kane County Cougars (11-14) to one run at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark Monday evening. The River Bandits used a three-run sixth to take the series opener from the Cougars 3-1.
Austin Chrismon (3-1) allowed the lone Cougar run on Cody Regis' RBI single in the bottom of the third. After the third frame, the Cougars only saw two more base runners the rest of the night.
Markus Solbach (1-2) kept Quad Cities scoreless through the first five innings before being roughed up in the sixth. The River Bandits grabbed three runs on four hits against Solbach, knocking him out in the sixth frame.
Chrismon's seven-inning, one-run effort was topped off with Jose Montero's two-inning shutout performance to end the game. Montero allowed just one hit, but struck out three Cougars for his fourth save in four tries.
The Cougars and River Bandits continue the series on Tuesday afternoon. Brent Jones (1-2, 3.64) takes the mound for the Cougars against Quad Cities' Daniel Mengden (1-1, 2.04). First pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark is at noon.
