Bees' Can't Hold Beloit in Opener

(Beloit-WI) - The Beloit Snappers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, on their way to a 5-3 win over the Burlington Bees, on Monday night, in game one of a three game series in Beloit.

Brett Vertigan opened the bottom of the first innin with a walk and would end up standing at third thanks to a throwing error on a pick off attempt. With one out, Yairo Munoz put Beloit on the board with a sacrifice fly, scoring Vertigan, giving the Snappers a 1-0 lead. With the bases empty and two outs, Sandber Pimentel doubled and then came into score on a single off the bat of Max Kuhn, upping the Beloit lead to 2-0.

After a strikeout to start the second, Zach Houchins grounded a single to center and then moved to third on a Ryan Seiz single to right field. Kasey Coffman picked up his first RBI as a member of the Burlington Bees, flying out to center, scoring Houchins, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

After the two runs in the first inning, Keynan Middleton went on to throw five innings, allowing just those two runs on six hits, in a no decision.

Kasey Coffman led off the top of the fifth inning with a walk. After a Brandon Gildea popout, Michael Hermosillo drew a walk, placing runners at first and second. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Raul Linares grounded out to second, scoring Coffman, tying the game at two.

Beloit jumped right back, taking the lead in the sixth. Shawn Duinkerk reached, with one out, with a single to right. Jose Chavez moved Duinkerk to third with a groundout. Edwin Diaz gave the lead back to Beloit with a double off the left field wall, scoring Duinkerk, putting the Snappers on top 3-2.

With one out in the top of the eighth inning, Raul Linares walked and moved to second on a walk issued to Caleb Adams. Andrew Daniel lofted a single to shallow left center, scoring Linares, tying the game at three.

Beloit started the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back singles, putting runners at the corners, Jose Chavez laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Joe Bennie, putting Beloit back on top. A wild pitch allowed Shawn Duinkerk to score, making the score 5-3 in favor of Beloit.

Ryan Seiz started the top of the ninth with a single and then moved to second on a walk issued to kasey Coffman. Brandon Gildea laid down a sacrifice bunt, putting runners at second and third with one out. Michael Hermosillo walked to load the bases. Raul Linares struckout swining and Caleb Adams flew out to right, ending his nine game hitting streak and the Bees' rally, as the Bees dell to Beloit, 5-3.

Snappers' reliever, Rob Huber (1-1) earned win while Bees' reliever Alex Klonowski (1-3) was charged with the loss. The Bees and Snappers continue their series tomorrow night at 6:30. Austin Robichaux starts for the Bees against Daniel Gossett for Beloit.
