
Dragons Pitching Staff Gets Help from Florida

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons have placed LHP Joe Wilson on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain. This marks the second trip to the DL for the southpaw in 2005. Wilson appeared in 12 games for the Dragons in 2005, posting a 2-3 record with an 8.20 ERA in 37.1 innings of work. Dayton has also placed INF Evan Conley on the DL retroactive to August 15, 2005 with a back injury. In 22 games with 61 at bats, Conley is hitting .180 with one HR and eight runs batted in.
With the two open roster spots, the Dragons have added a pair of pitchers. RHP James Avery has been promoted form the GCL Reds. Avery, a fifth round selection of the Reds in the 2005 First Year Player Draft out of Niagara University. The Reds also reassigned RHP Joe Powers from the Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League. Powers was selected by the Reds in the 23rd Round of the 2001 First Year Player Draft out of Wright State University in Dayton. After pitching with the Dragons in 2002, Powers missed the 2003 and 2004 seasons with elbow and shoulder surgery. Powers has thrown a combined 13.1 innings in 2005 with the GCL Reds and the Sarasota Reds. With the Dragons in 2002, Powers was 1-5 with a 6.32 ERA in 49.1 innings of work. The right hander appeared in 36 games starting one. The Dragons roster is at the maximum level of 25 players.
