
Dragons Drub Captains 10-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH) - The Dayton Dragons (1-5, 31-45) used a nine run bottom of the third inning to defeat the Lake County Captains (3-3, 34-41) by a final of 10-3. Dayton sent 13 men to the plate and scored nine times. In the inning Dayton hit for the cycle as a team including two triples, two doubles and a three run homer by the number nine hitter, Yovan Gonzalez. The homerun was the fifth of the season for Gonzalez. That homer chased Captains starter Felix Sterling from the game and the score was 9-1 Dayton.
Lake County took an early 1-0 lead over Dayton when they scored in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Todd Hankins drew a walk. Jose Ramirez then hit a double down the line on a 3-2 pitch. Since Hankins, was moving on the pitch he was able to score from first base easily and Lake County led the ballgame.
Dayton added on in the bottom of the sixth inning, Joe Terry hit a homerun to deep right field, his third of the season, and the Dragons led 10-1. The next hitter Sean Buckley doubled and that was the eighth extra base hit of the night for Dayton. The side was retired with no further damage done.
Lake County tacked on two in the ninth. With two outs and two on, Bryson Myles singled to left field and Alex Monsalve and Jerrud Sabourin scored and the Score was 10-3 Dragons. The Captains fell by that final score.
RHP Felix Sterling (3-7) took to the mound for Lake County, and took the loss. Felix lasted just two and two thirds innings. He allowed six hits, nine runs, four runs were earned. Felix walked two and struck out three and allowed the three-run homer to Gonzalez. Sterling has now allowed 13 homeruns on the season. Francisco Valera entered the game in relief for the Captains; and pitched three and one thirds innings. Valera allowed three hits, one earned run, one walk and one homerun. Valera also struck out one Dragon. Kyle Petter came into the game in the seventh inning for Lake County and did not allow a run in two innings of work.
RHP Carlos Gonzalez (0-2) started the game for Dayton and didn't get a decision. Gonzalez lasted three innings, allowing one hit, one earned run, one walk and he struck out two. James Allen (5-2) earned the win after entering in relief. Allen pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and he fanned four. Mike Denhardt pitched the ninth inning for Dayton, and allowed two hits and two runs.
Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by ESPN 850 WKNR and will feature a .25-cent beer Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price draft beer and fountain soda until 9 PM. The Captains will send LHP Elvis Araujo (2-6, 4.67) to the mound and West Michigan will counter with LHP Kyle Ryan (4-3, 3.88). Game time is 7 PM.
