Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons enjoyed their biggest home inning in nearly five years on the way to a 10-3 victory over the Lake County Captains on Wednesday night. A crowd of 8,364 saw the game at Fifth Third Field as the Dragons earned their first victory in the second half after five losses.
With Lake County leading 1-0, the Dragons exploded in the bottom of the third, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs. It was their biggest scoring inning since they scored nine runs at Quad Cities on May 22, 2009, and their biggest inning at home since they scored 11 at Fifth Third Field on July 17, 2007.
Juan Silva started the rally when he tripled over the head of the center fielder and then scored on Yovan Gonzalez's ground out to third base. Junior Arias reached on an error, stole second, and scored on Juan Perez's double to the right field corner. Perez then scored on Joe Terry's single to left field to make it 3-1. Terry stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a balk. One batter later, Ryan Wright tripled to the gap in right center to drive in another run, and Wright scored on Yorman Rodriguez's double to left to make it 6-1. After a walk to Silva, Gonzalez belted a three-run home run to left field, his fifth of the year, to make it 9-1.
The Dragons added another run in the sixth on Joe Terry's solo home run to right center field, his third of the season, to make it 10-1. Lake County picked up two unearned runs with two outs in the ninth to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Carlos Gonzalez worked the first three innings before leaving when he reached his pitch limit. He allowed one hit and one run while walking one and striking out two. James Allen (5-2) replaced Gonzalez and worked five innings, allowing two hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. The five-inning stint for Allen was the longest relief outing of the year for a Dragons pitcher. Mike Dennhardt pitched the ninth, allowing two hits and two unearned runs to close out the Dragons win.
The Dragons finished with nine hits. Perez extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games, matching Ryan Wright for the team season high in 2012. Gonzalez's four runs batted in also matched a team season high. Silva had two hits including a double and triple. Terry also had two hits.
The Dragons travel to South Bend to take on the Silver Hawks at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a six-game road trip. Centerville's Dan Jensen (3-7, 5.51) will get the start for Dayton against South Bend's J.R. Bradley (4-4, 4.76).
