
Hawks Drop Shootout with Loons

Marc Bourgeois finished a triple shy of the cycle Wednesday but the Silver Hawks (38-38, 3-3) fell 11-6 in the final game of a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons (37-39, 3-3). Bourgeois hit a single, double and two-run home run in a losing effort. The Loons took the series two games to one.
The Silver Hawks and Loons combined for 17 runs and 25 hits in a game that lasted three hours and 16 minutes. Jose Dominguez (3-3) earned the win out of the Loons bullpen, allowing just one hit over 2.1 scoreless innings. Righty Seth Simmons took his first loss of the season, surrendering two earned runs on two hits over 1.2 innings.
Tom Belza and Bourgeois each collected three hits for the Silver Hawks. The Loons were led by Nick Akins who went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Pratt Maynard finished 4-for-5 for the Loons hitting out of the seven slot.
With the game tied 6-6, the Loons scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull away for the win. The Silver Hawks scored three runs in the second inning to jump out to a 3-1 advantage. Kerry Jenkins contributed a two-run triple and Bryan Henry singled in a run.
The Silver Hawks and Loons each scored two runs in the third inning. Bourgeois hit a two-run home run to right center to give the Hawks a 5-3 third-inning lead. The Loons took the lead right back with a three-run fourth inning that included a two-RBI double from Delvis Morales.
Trailing 6-5, the Silver Hawks tied the game with a run in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout from Ryan Court.
Tyler Green started for South Bend and got a no decision, allowing six earned runs on seven hits over four innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out two. Joel Lima started for Great Lakes and also did not factor in the decision, allowing six runs - four earned - on eight hits over 4.2 innings.
Eric Groff went 2-for-5 for the Silver Hawks.
Matt Sample tossed 0.2 innings out of the Hawks bullpen and allowed three earned runs on three hits. Right-hander Alex Capaul worked 2.2 unblemished innings.
The Silver Hawks welcome the Dayton Dragons to Coveleski Stadium to begin a three-gameÃ- series on Thursday. Right-hander J.R. Bradley (4-4, 4.76) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by Dayton right-hander Dan Jensen (3-7, 5.51).
