New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, are proud to announce Kyle Drabek as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year for 2010. Drabek, who is the second Fisher Cats pitcher to earn the award, will be recognized prior to the Sunday, August 29 game against the Portland Sea Dogs.
Drabek, 22, has anchored the pitching rotation for New Hampshire all season, compiling a 14-9 record with a 2.98 ERA. The right-handed starter out of The Woodlands High School in Texas currently leads the Eastern League in wins (14), and ranks second among Eastern League pitchers in innings pitched (154.0) and batting average against (.216). Drabek is also among the league leaders in strikeouts (123-3rd), ERA (2.98-4th) and WHIP (1.19-5th). The ace of the Fisher Cats has won each of his last five starts for New Hampshire, and has allowed three earned runs or less in 19 of his 25 starts, including eight games in which he has not surrendered a single run.
In 2010, Drabek was named to the Eastern League mid-season and post-season All-Star teams, making the start on July 14 in Harrisburg, PA and throwing one scoreless inning for the Eastern Division. The 6'1", 190-pound hurler was also named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week after throwing the first nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history during a 5-0 win against the New Britain Rock Cats on July 4th.
Kyle, who is the son of former National League Cy Young Award winner Doug Drabek, was acquired by Toronto as part of the Roy Halladay trade on December 16, 2009. Drabek was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 draft.
Southpaw Rudy Owens of Altoona finished second for the award, while Harrisburg left-handed starter Tom Milone finished third. This award was voted on by Eastern League managers, writers, broadcast personnel and other members of the media. Gustavo Chacin won the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year for the Fisher Cats in 2004 with a 16-2 record.
