Downing Scores Twice in 4-1 Triumph over Cyclones

Cincinnati, OH - Forward Jack Downing scored twice and goaltender Allen York registered his first win as a Stingray making 23 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays (26-9-1-2) over the Cincinnati Cyclones (23-11-1-1) 4-1 at U.S. Bank Arena Friday night.

Downing kicked off the scoring at 12:33 of the first period tapping a pass from forward Peter Boyd under left pad of Cyclones goaltender Joe Howe (L, 26 saves on 30 shots) off the right-wing post. In the second period, Downing gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead on the power play at 6:41 moving around the Cyclones defense along the left-wing boards and tucking a shot between the legs of Howe for his eighth goal of the season. Forward Scott Campbell and York picked up assists.

Forward Patrick Gaul made it 3-0 with an unassisted shorthanded goal 28 seconds into the final frame. The Cyclones jumped on the scoreboard at 7:41 when defenseman Zach Miskovic lifted a wrist shot over the left shoulder of York from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Wayne Simpson reclaimed a three-goal Stingrays advantage by intercepting a pass in the neutral zone and capitalizing on a breakaway unassisted at 13:39. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-2 on the power play while the Cyclones went 0-for-3.

The Stingrays travel to Evansville, Indiana to take on the Evansville IceMen tomorrow, Saturday, January 18 at Ford Center 8:15 p.m. and return to the North Charleston Coliseum for Family Four Pack Friday on Friday, January 24 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. Grab four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and large popcorn for $55 at the Coliseum Box Office.
