Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Richmond, VA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, trailing by one and down to their final strike in the ninth, came back to pull out the 2-1 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in ten innings at The Diamond in Richmond. Jason Krizan had the game-tying RBI single in the ninth to right off Sam Wolff as Will Toffey beat Jacob Heyward's throw from right to even the score at one. Andres Gimenez had the go-ahead single with two out in the tenth to drive home Mike Paez with the go-ahead run.
In the ninth, down 1-0, the Ponies had two out and nobody on and on a 3-2 count, Toffey singled to right, followed by a Kevin Kaczmarski single to right, and capped off by Krizan's single. The Rumble Ponies were 1-10 heading into tonight's game when trailing after eight innings but get a signature second win of the year in that category.
In the tenth, with Mike Paez off third and two out, Gimenez went the opposite way with an RBI single off of Melvin Adon to put the Ponies on top. Then in the bottom of the frame Gimenez made a nice pick at short to keep Brandon Van Horn's single on the infield. The shortstop then threw out the lead runner Hamlet Marte with a perfect throw to Paez as Marte tried to get back to the bag at second.
Ponies starter Harol Gonzalez was strong again in the no-decision, allowing only 1 unearned run over seven innings, with two walks and five strikeouts. Adonis Uceta gets the win in relief (2-2) pitching two scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth. Austin McGeorge earns his first save of the year closing out the game in the tenth.
