Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY- After a disappointing 3-0 loss last night the Elmira Jackals fired back with a 5-3 victory tonight over the Johnstown Chiefs at First Arena. Chris Korchinski netted one goal and added two assists while Benoit Doucet scored the game winner early in the third period to give the Jackals their 17th win of the season.

After a low scoring affair last night, the Johnstown Chiefs didn't wait long to get the scoring started tonight. Ryan Del Monte netted his 10th goal of the year at the 1:01 mark to put the Chiefs up 1-0. The Jackals responded later in the first period with a Nathan Lutz tally, his 3rd of the year. Chris Korchinski and Derek Couture got the assists.

In the second period a teeter totter match developed. The Jackals took a 2-1 lead at the 8:02 mark when Chris Korchinski netted his 10th of the year. A great second effort goal that was assisted by Brandon Roach and Craig Switzer. The Chiefs fired right back with a Jarrett Konkle goal at the 10:18 mark. The Jackals would again respond with Steve Yetmans' 16th of the season. The Jackals were unable to score on a two minute power play but moments after at the 14:54 mark Pierre-Luc Faubert and Josh Aspenlind made highlight reel passes to connect with the firing Yetman. Again the Chiefs would strike back. This time at the 16:22 mark Jason Spence put home his fourth of the season. The 3-3 score held into the third period.

With the shots 20-13 in favor of the Jackals heading into the third, Elmira didn't miss a stride out shooting Johnstown 14-4 in the final frame. Elmira's Benoit Doucet sunk the game winning goal at the 3:36 mark with a quick snap shot that went top shelf from the far circle. Nathan Lutz and Chris Korchinski assisted on the play. The Chiefs would pressure in the final minutes but could not find an answer for David Shantz. After a Shantz save in the late seconds, Pierre-Luc Faubert skated the puck to center ice and launched home his 10th goal of the year, an empty netter at the 19:22 mark.

With the win the Jackals improve to 17-15-1-3 while the Chiefs fall to 22-12-2-0.

NEXT UP: The Jackals will return to home ice for a double header with the Dayton Bombers on Tuesday and Wednesday the 13th and 14th of January. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m.
