Dominant Pitching Leads Portland to 4-1 Victory

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Portland Sea Dogs won their second-straight game over the Somerset Patriots, 4-1 on Friday night at TD Bank Ballpark. With the victory, the Sea Dogs are now in first place in the Double-A Northeast League Northeast Division and are second in the league standings, 2.0 games behind the Akron RubberDucks.

Victor Santos earned his third win of the season tossing 5.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out three. Rio Gomez tossed 3.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits while walking one and striking out two. Gomez has not allowed a run since July 8th. Jose Disla was given the save pitching the ninth inning and allowed one walk while striking out the final batter.

The Sea Dogs held Major League rehabber Clint Frazier to one single in the eighth inning. He finished the night 1-for-3 with a walk.

With two-outs in the top of the first inning, Triston Casas ripped a single into centerfield. He then swiped second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Medina. Casas now has five stolen bases this season. After working a 10-pitch at-bat, Devlin Granberg hit a bouncing ball down the third base line. Third baseman Chad Bell committed a fielding error, allowing Casas to score and Portland led, 1-0.

Roldani Baldwin blasted his second homer in as many days in the top of the second inning, extending Portland's lead, 2-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, Jeisson Rosario lined a two-out single to left field then stole his tenth base of the year and came home to score on an RBI single by Tanner Nishioka and the Sea Dogs led, 3-0.

Dermis Garcia crushed his 23rd homer of the year in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting the Patriots on the board, 3-1.

In the eighth inning, Pedro Castellanos reached base on a dropped third strike at the plate. He scored from first on an RBI double to deep left centerfield by Hudson Potts and the Sea Dogs were able to hold on to the 4-1 victory.

The Sea Dogs and Patriots will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, August 14th at 7:05pm at TD Bank Ballpark. RHP Brayan Bello (0-2, 5.08 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while Somerset will send RHP Shawn Semple (5-2, 3.11 ERA) to the bump.
