Allen Gets First Double-A Win, Ducks Rout Reading, 9-3

Three Akron RubberDucks homered, and left-hander Logan Allen went five innings to earn his first Double-A win in a 9-3 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils in the third game of a six-game series at FirstEnergy Stadium Friday night. Akron is a season-best 22 games above .500 and has a two-game lead over Portland (52-34) for the league's best record.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the third inning against Reading right-hander James McArthur. Left fielder Clark Scolamiero singled to left-center field, right fielder Steven Kwan had a bunt single, and shortstop Brayan Rocchio hit a go-ahead, three-run home run to right-center field, going deep for a second straight night.

Mound Presence

Allen allowed Reading's first two runs on solo home runs. In the first inning, shortstop Bryson Stott hit a one-out solo home run, giving the Fightin Phils their first lead in the series. Allen retired eight of the next 10 batters before allowing a fourth-inning leadoff homer to third baseman Madison Stokes. Allen finished with eight strikeouts, his most in a Double-A start. Left-hander Jake Miednik pitched a scoreless hitless sixth inning. Right-hander Aaron Pinto struck out five batters in two innings, allowing Stott's second solo homer. Left-hander Ben Krauth pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Duck Tales

Second baseman Andruw Monasterio homered for a second straight game to tie the score, 1-1, in the second inning. Designated hitter Bo Naylor hit a two-run homer in the sixth - his fourth home run in his last 11 games. In the seventh, right fielder Steven Kwan doubled, Rocchio singled, and a wild pitch scored a run. Center fielder Will Brennan added an RBI single, and a bases-loaded walk to first baseman Marcos González scored a third run in the inning.
