'Dogs top 'Cats in eleven innings, 3-2

(Manchester, NH) - Andrew Pinckney (3-for-5, 2 RBI) tied the game in the ninth and had the game-winning RBI double in the 11th, lifting the Sea Dogs to a 3-2, 11-inning victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Portland was down to their final out in the ninth inning but Pinckney lined a run-scoring single off Zach Dials to tie the game at two. In the 11th inning, Pinckney's double traveled over the head of the right-fielder to score Mark Wagner with the winning run.

Carlos Vasquez (1-1) pitched 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first win in a Sea Dogs uniform. Chad Rhoades worked around a lead-off walk in the 11th inning to earn his 2nd save of the year.

Vermilyea (2-1) took the loss for the Fisher Cats, yielding two hits and one run over 1 and 1/3 innings.

Both starters were terrific, each giving up one run in six innings pitched. Kris Johnson's only blemish came in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Travis Snider, tying the game at one. Johnson allowed six hits, one run, two walks and fanned four over six frames. Ricky Romero earned his second quality start of the season, giving up only four hits with two walks and striking out five.

Portland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jered Stanley grounded into a double play, scoring John Otness. The game was tied until Kyle Phillips launched a home run off Mike James in the seventh inning.

The Sea Dogs had an opportunity to take the lead in the 10th inning but Ryan Khoury and Iggy Suarez struck out with a runner at third base. The Fisher Cats had only one hit after the seventh inning and went 1-for-5 with runners-in-scoring position.

With the victory, the Sea Dogs guaranteed a winning road-trip by improving to 5-2 with two games left on the trip. On Wednesday night the two teams will play at 6:35 PM from Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Portland's pitcher is still listed as TBA; New Hampshire will counter with LHP Brett Cecil (0-1, 3.18).

Notes...Portland has scored 19 runs with 2-outs on the roadtrip...Zach Daeges went 1-for-4 and has reached base safely in 20 straight games...Mark Wagner picked up two hits and provided a sacrifice-bunt in the ninth inning to set up the tying run.
