Tillman Gets Huge Led Early, Cruises to 5-0

(Erie, PA) - Jonathan Tucker and Brian Peterson each had two hits, two runs and three RBI as the Baysox scored six runs in the first inning and Chris Tillman cruised to 5-0. The 10-5 win is the Baysox ninth win in a row, and with Harrisburg's game postponed, the Baysox are now tied with the Senators for first place in the Southern Division.

The Baysox gave Tillman a six run lead before he even had to take the mound. Mike Rodriguez reached on an error to lead off the inning but was out at second when Carlos Rojas hit into a double play. Lou Montanez and Jeff Nettles each hit two-out singles and Nolan Reimold walked to load the bases. Brian Peterson hit a double to right and all three runners scored. Peterson scored on a single to center by Kennard Jones and Jonathan Tucker hit a two run homerun to left field to put the Baysox up 6-0.

Tillman did not allow a run through the first three innings, before allowing a one-out two run single by Ryan Roberson in the bottom of the fourth inning. Justin Justice hit his first homerun of the season for the SeaWolves in the fifth inning to cut the Baysox lead to 6-3.

Kam Mickolio came in to relieve Tillman to start the bottom of the sixth inning. Mickolio retired the first four SeaWolves he faced before walking Will Rhymes with one out in the seventh. Danny Worth singled to right to move Rhymes over to third and Justin Justice drove him in with a ground out to first base. Worth would score on a Wilkin Ramirez triple and the SeaWolves trailed by one run, 6-5.

Gerrardo Casadiego relieved Mickolio to start the bottom of the eighth inning and he retired the SeaWolves in order. The Baysox would add four more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach. Brian Peterson singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. Kennard Jones laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Peterson to third before scoring on a double by Jonathan Tucker. Tucker moved to third on a groundout by Blake Davis and scored on a single by Mike Rodriguez. Rodriguez moved to second on a single by Carlos Rojas and scored on a single by Lou Montanez. With two outs and runners on the corners, Jeff Nettles singled to right to drive in Rojas, but Montanez was thrown out attempting to go to third on the play.

Rommie Lewis pitched a scoreless ninth as the Baysox improved to 28-17 on the season. Chris Tillman allowed three runs in five innings on six hits and two walks while striking out two to improve to 5-0. He is the second Baysox starter to reach 5-0 this season, Chris Waters was 5-0 before being promoted to Class AAA Norfolk.
