Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Saltdogs (33-49) set a new American Association record by turning five double plays but fell to the Kansas City T-Bones (44-39) 8-3 in front of 4,031 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark Wednesday night.
All five double plays ended their respective innings, coming in the first three and final two frames for the Saltdogs defensively. The accomplishment equals a franchise record, which Lincoln first set in the Northern League in 2005.
Stephen Garceau (8-4) pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six to earn the victory. Justin Edwards (4-7) allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Brandon Jones belted a two-run homer in the first, his 11th of the year, to give the T-Bones the early 2-0 lead.
Sean Smith led the way offensively for the Saltdogs, going 2-for-4 with a double, stolen base, walk and two RBI.
The clubs meet Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. for the rubber match. Tony Butler (1-2, 3.06) is set to square off against Devin Anderson (7-5, 3.46). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
