Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Lincoln Saltdogs won a pitchers' duel in Wichita on Thursday, beating the Wingnuts 3-2. Lincoln improves to 33-25 on the season, 4-6 in the second half.

Lincoln was held hitless through the first seven innings, and fell behind 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by Steve Pearson. The Saltdogs, though, finally got to Wichita starter Gabe Medina (3-5) in the eighth. Roberto Alvarez broke up the no-hitter with a double down the right-field line, and Pat Trettel followed with a long two-run home run to left to put Lincoln in front for good. Setup man Adam Daniels struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth, and closer Chris Thompson pitched a hitless ninth to earn his 17th save.

The rally made a winner out of Lincoln starter Chris Cullen (2-2), who pitched seven solid innings. Cullen held the Wingnuts scoreless through the first six frames, and ended up allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four. Lincoln gave him a first-inning run when Albenis Machado walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error. Medina then retired 18 of the next 19 Saltdogs he faced, striking out eight, before Lincoln's eighth-inning rally. The 'Dogs finished with only three hits, all of them coming in the eighth.

Lincoln now travels to Sioux City for a four-game series that begins Friday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Jim Paduch will make the start for the Saltdogs.
