El Paso Diablos News Release
The El Paso offense would go silent from the first inning on as they fell 6-2 to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains at Fair Ground Field on Thursday night. It brings an end to a road trip in which El Paso goes just 2-8.
El Paso would get a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning on a Kyle Nichols two RBI single. The Captains would come back to tie the game in the fourth inning and then took the lead with a run in the fifth. Shreveport would open up their lead to 6-2 after scoring three runs in the seventh inning which would produce the game's final result.
El Paso got a very good start from William Buzhardt who allowed just three runs in six innings. Buzhardt (1-1) took the tough loss as he allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out five. Former Diablo Cardoza Tucker (1-0) was very good in picking up a win in his first start. He pitched seven innings and allowed just two runs on three hits while striking out seven.
El Paso's offense went completely silent on the night. After scoring two runs on two hits and two walks in the first inning, they had just one hit the rest of the way. Hector Bernal went 2-4 while Kyle Nichols had the only other hit. After Bernal had a two out single in the second inning the Diablos would fail to get another hit the rest of the night. The only base runners the rest of the way would be a Nichols walk in the fourth and Arnoldo Ponce getting aboard on an error in the fifth. The night ended with the last 13 going in order.
The Diablos now head home and get ready for a long nine game home stand. They welcome in the St. Paul Saints on Friday night. Amad Stephens (3-6, 5.27) makes the start for the Diablos against Jason Godin (4-2, 4.67). First pitch is slated for 7:05 and fireworks will follow the game.
