SIOUX CITY, Iowa. - Ben Moore held the Sioux City Explorers to one run and one hit while Trevor Lawhorn hit a grand slam in an 8-1 win for the Sioux Falls Pheasants on Thursday night. The Pheasants took two out of three games to win the series.

With the victory the Pheasants became the first team in the American Association with 40 overall wins. Their 8-2 second-half record has them in first place in North Division, a spot they've occupied since Opening Day.

T.J. Bohn's solo home run in the first inning was the only hit and run that Moore (7-5) allowed in six innings. From the second inning on, Moore faced the minimum and retired 11 consecutive batters in one stretch. On the way to his seventh victory, he walked one and fanned four. His league-best strikeout total is 85. Moore was lifted from the game before the seventh inning for precautionary reasons after a minor recurring groin injury recently flared up.

The Pheasants scored eight unanswered runs from the third inning on. Reggie Abercrombie tied the ballgame in the third inning with a run-scoring double, his league-leading 63rd RBI. Back-to-back RBI singles from Will Richards and Joe Anthonsen in the third gave the Pheasants a 3-1 lead. Kevin Carby added a solo home run in the fourth, his third of the year and second in series. Anthonsen's 4-for-5 performance with an RBI led the Pheasants' offense.

Lawhorn's two-out grand slam in seventh inning stretched Sioux Falls' lead to 8-1. It was his 13th home run of the year and the sixth Pheasant grand slam this year. He joins Reggie Abercrombie, Brandon Sing and Beau Torbert as the fourth Pheasant to have at least 13 home runs.

The Pheasants' bullpen took a cue from Moore in the seventh inning, as Ryan Grant and Ben Rosen combined for the final three shutout innings.

Sioux City starter David Welch (4-4) took the loss, allowing all eight runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

The Pheasants open a four-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at Sioux Falls Stadium. It's a Fantastic Friday Fireworks Night, sponsored by KELO-TV and Sanford Health.
