Pelicans Streaking into Record Books - 11 Wins in a Row

The Pensacola Pelicans, 9-0 and in first place in the second half, should have some Lincoln, NE water shipped to Pensacola. It was in Lincoln on Saturday, July 3 where the Pelicans began their current tear of winning 11 straight games.

The current streak includes two against Lincoln, a three-game home sweep of the first half champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains, a four-game home sweep of the El Paso Diablos, and now two against the Cats in Fort Worth, TX. The final game of the three-game series is tonight in Fort Worth. Tomorrow, the Pels travel to Grand Prairie for three games before returning home on Monday, July 19.

With only three more straight victories, the Pelicans will tie the league record set at 14 by none other than the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2007. Fourteen would also set a new Pelicans record, which currently sits at 13 set back in 2004 under manager Bernie Carbo. Pensacola has other solid winning streaks of six games ('06 & '07), seven games ('08), and eight games ('09).

Pensacola currents sits atop the south division in the second half at 9-0, five games ahead of second place Fort Worth. Overall, the Pelicans have the fourth best record in the league. The winner of the first half and winner of the second half will face each other in the first round of the play-offs. Pensacola is well on their way to earning a spot in the post-season and defending their 2009 South Division Championship.
