Chicago Dogs News Release
ROSEMONT, ILL - The Chicago Dogs' late offensive power leads to a 9-4 win and sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Dogs have won eight of their last nine and hold a league-best 14-4 record.
Josh Altmann jumped back into the league lead, crushing his eighth home run in 18 games. Altmann has been scorching hot to open the season and was awarded American Association Player of the Month for May. Altmann is top-five in five of the major offensive categories so far this season.
The Dogs widened the lead in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs en route to the series sweep. Donivan Williams crushed a double to deep left-center field, scoring both Altmann and Lidge, which virtually sealed the victory for Chicago.
The first five innings were tight, with the two teams exchanging leads.
Lidge laced an RBI single to right field to open scoring in the bottom of the third.
Jesus Lujano's solo home run re-gave the Dogs the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Momentum quickly shifted when Winnipeg's Max Murphy smacked a three-run home run to give the Goldeyes a 4-2 lead.
The Dogs stormed right back.
Altmann's two-run blast quickly tied the game and gave life to the Dogs' bench in the fifth, then Matt Bottcher wrapped a game-winning solo home run down the right field line in the sixth.
Jonathan Cheshire, Joe Cavallaro and Bryan Warzek combined for three shutout innings to close the Dogs' 14th victory of the season.
In total, the Dogs' bullpen threw four innings and only allowed one hit and zero walks.
Altmann, Williams and Lidge each totaled two RBI in the victory, and the Dogs scored 9+ runs for the sixth time this season.
The scorching hot Dogs invite the Milwaukee Milkmen to Impact Field for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 6:30 pm.
