June 10, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Mankato MoonDogs News Release
John Lundgren took the mound for the MoonDogs as he looked to right the ship after yesterday's meltdown against the Stingers. Lundgren started out strong moving through the first inning with ease. The Honkers matched Lundgren's effort moving through the MoonDogs batters with ease. Lundgren continued where he left off in the first making quick work of the Honkers batters giving the MoonDogs batter a chance to give them the early lead.
Lundgren would continue to place pressure on the Honker batters through the fourth inning. The MoonDogs would not put Lundgren's hard work to waste. During the fourth inning Ty Rumsey would take a hit by pitch giving the MoonDogs a much-needed base runner. Nolan Tichy would not take long at the plate as he sends one deep to the wall behind his fielding position out in left field driving Rumsey in for the first score of the game. Lundgren would go back in and make quick work of the top of the fifth.
The Moondogs would reward Lundgren for his quick work as Kip Fougerousse would get on base with a single followed Joe Houser going the distance and getting a ten-pitch walk. Brendan Hord would also go the distance drawing a nine-pitch walk to get the bases loaded at ISG for the first time tonight. Rumsy the scorer of the last run wanted to get more involved, so he sacked a fly out to push fellow Purple Ace Fougerousse in for a two-run lead.
Lundgren would end his night after the sixth inning after nine strikeouts and one walk giving him a real chance at the NWL pitcher of the night. Lundgren would be replaced by Caleb Strack who threw two gems of innings holding onto the MoonDogs lead.
The MoonDogs would not let up the pressure during the eighth inning getting the bases juiced for the second time in the night. While getting pitched to Rumsey would get a wild pitch that he directed the boys to move putting the MoonDogs up by three and not looking back.
Myles Meyer would enter the ninth inning ready to shut down the Honkers and lock up the shutout. Meyers would see himself get in trouble with the tying run, making it to the plate with two outs and two base runners. Meyers would lock it down and get the final out swinging for the hills locking down the MoonDogs first shutout of the season and a 2-1 lead in the US 14 Rivalry Series.
The MoonDogs and Honkers continue the series tomorrow at Mayo field at 5:05 P.M.
