
Spitters Bite the Spiders in 14-8 Win

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters improve their record to 10-3 after a 14-8 win against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders tonight. The offense dominated in front of 1,669 fans on the first 'Spit-tacular Saturday' of the season at Turtle Creek Stadium.
Traverse City generated 14 runs on 13 hits, and the offense laid on the runs starting in the bottom of the fourth inning with a Glenn Miller lead off home run.
The Dock Spiders lead off the scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning, but Pit Spitters didn't stay quiet for long. Third baseman Glenn Miller lead off the bottom of the 4th inning with a first pitch homerun, the first long ball at home on the season. Pit Spitters continued rallying with five on base scoring three to end the fourth inning, leaving the score at 4-3 going into the fifth. Dock Spiders answered in the sixth, scoring three runs, as a result of Luke Novitske's single, driving in one run. Down to one out left in the 6th the Dock Spiders continued offensively tying the game at 6-6 before heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Not to be outdone, Pit Spitters Glenn Miller ripped open the inning with a double. The Pit Spitters went on to score five more runs leaving the score at 11-6 going into the top of the seventh. The run scoring concluded with an additional three runs added, after a triple from Andrew Mannelly scored two after a follow up RBI from Blake Bean. The Dock Spiders collected eight runs on 14 hits but didn't have enough bite to stop the Pit Spitters offense tonight. Final score was 14-8.
The Pit Spitters improve to 10-3 as the Dock Spiders fall 3-10. Pit Spitters starter Aaron Forrest (1-0) records his third start, allowing three runs through two innings of work. Pit Spitters reliever Aren Gustafason (1-0) picks up his first win on the season after throwing four innings, giving up four hits. The Pit Spitters record the most runs at home to date scoring 14 runs on 13 hits, with the first Turtle Creek Stadium homerun of the season recorded courtesy of Glenn Miller.
