'Dogs Clinch Gary Series After Rain Delay

GARY, Ind. -- The Saltdogs (36-24) defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats (31-30) 4-1 around a 91-minute rain delay at U.S. Steel Yard Saturday night.
Lincoln has won 18 of its last 22, and now leads the Central division by a season-high 5 1/2 games.
Jarred Mederos hit an RBI double off the wall in left to give Gary a 1-0 lead in the third.
The Saltdogs began the fourth with five consecutive hits, including the game-tying double from true rookie Austin Darby and the go-ahead single from true rookie Connor Teykl.
Shairon Martis (7-5) pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits to earn the win.
Martis allowed a lead-off triple in the bottom of the sixth but induced a ground out and got two strikeouts to escape the jam with the lead intact.
Brandon Jacobs launched a solo homer in the eighth, his second of the year.
Jeff McKenzie pitched the final three innings scoreless to earn his fourth save of the year.
Teykl, a former Rice Owl, has driven in six runs in his first seven professional games with four doubles.
After the sixth inning, the game was delayed by rain for 91 minutes.
Lincoln goes for the series sweep Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. RHP Casey Barnes is expected to square off against RHP Richard Castillo. Radio coverage begins at 1:35 p.m. on KFOR FM 103.3/1240 AM.
