
Canaries Split Double-Header in Texas on Saturday Night

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- The Sioux Falls Canaries opened up a three-game series against the Texas AirHogs, splitting the double-header with a pair of 6-1 finals scores on Saturday night at AirHog Stadium.
GAME 1: The Sioux Falls Canaries extended their win streak to four games after defeating the Texas AirHogs by the final score of 6-1.
Starting pitcher Kris Regas earned his fourth win of the season after tossing his first complete game of the season. The veteran left-hander allowed one unearned run one six hits while striking out seven AirHogs batters in seven innings of work.
The Canaries took their first lead of the night in the top of the second inning when catcher Mike Falsetti ripped a two-out double down the left field line. The extra-base hit brought home Jake Taylor and Cameron Monger to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead. The Birds extended their lead in the top half of the fourth inning when Monger dropped an RBI single into right before scoring on a Blake Schmit, three-run triple.
Monger finished the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Schmit wrapped up the first game of the double header going 1-for-4 with three RBI and a strikeout.
Texas' starting pitcher Sam Martin was knocked out of the ball game after giving up six runs on five hits over four innings. The right-hander walked three batters while striking out two in the loss.
GAME 2: The Texas AirHogs used a five-run third inning in game two of Saturday night's double header to snap the Canaries four-game win streak on Saturday night.
AirHogs starting pitcher Carlos Misell made his first start of the season, holding the Canaries to one-run on four hits in six innings. The right-hander's only blemish of the night came in the top of the sixth inning when David Bergin sent a two-out solo homerun of the left-field wall. The Blast was Bergin's 11th homerun of the year and the only run of the night for the Birds.
Canaries starting pitcher Shawn Blackwell gave up six runs on six hits over his six innings of work, but suffered his third straight loss, and six loss overall this season. Blackwell gave up one run over his first two innings, but ran into some trouble in the fourth inning. The right-hander gave up all five runs with two-outs, including a two-run homerun from Burt Reynolds and a three-run homerun from Cody Lenahan.
The Birds finished the night with five hits, including a 1-for-3 night at the plate for Cameron Monger, who has now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. Blake Schmit continues to pace the Canaries offensive attack, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Series wraps up on Sunday afternoon with a 2:05 PM first pitch in Grand Prairie, TX. LHP Joe Bircher will make his 12th start of the season for the Birds against AirHogs starting pitcher Griffin Russell. Fans can listen to all the action on Sioux Falls Sports Radio, AM-1230, FM-98.1 KWSN.
