Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

KANSAS CITY, KS - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (33-27) beat the Kansas City T-Bones 7-6 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.

Tied at 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning, the Goldeyes strung together one of their grittiest rallies of the season. Behind in the count 1-2, Josh Romanski grounded a leadoff single to centre on the sixth pitch of his at bat. Romanski took second on a wild pitch, and moved to third when Reggie Abercrombie lined out to right field on a 1-2 pitch from T-Bones' reliever Aaron Baker (2-4). After Willie Cabrera was intentionally walked, Baker retired David Rohm on a flyball to shallow right. With first and third and two outs, Wes Darvill lined a 1-2 pitch down the left field line for an RBI double that scored Romanski with the lead run. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam followed with a two-run double to right-centre to stretch the lead to 7-4. Hoopii-Haslam's double came on a 1-2 count and on the sixth pitch of the at bat. Hoopii-Haslam has now driven in 17 runs in his last 19 games with a plate appearance.

Eric Eadington relieved Cameron McVey (1-2) in the bottom of the ninth. Tyson Gillies led off and worked a 10-pitch walk. After Brett Wiley struck out, Tyler Massey drew a full-count walk to bring the tying run to the plate. Jake Blackwood struck a two-run double to left-centre field that cut the Goldeyes' lead to 7-6. Blackwood attempted to stretch the hit into a triple, but was thrown out at third base on a perfect relay from Darvill. Eadington struck out Anthony Gallas to end the game and earn his second save of the year.

McVey earned the win in relief having worked a perfect bottom of the eighth.

Baker took the loss, allowing the three earned runs in the top of the ninth.

Kansas City (27-34) took an early 2-0 lead when Gallas hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the first against Goldeyes' starter Mikey O'Brien .

Winnipeg answered right back in the second. Cabrera singled to right with one out and scored from first on a double to right-centre from Rohm. Rohm took third on Darvill's groundball to first base, and scored the tying run on a single through the left side from Casio Grider .

In the top of the sixth, the Goldeyes took their first lead of the night. Rohm and Darvill opened the inning with consecutive singles. After Grider laid down a sacrifice bunt, Tanner Murphy singled home Rohm on a line drive to centre. Darvill scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

The T-Bones scratched out the tying runs in the seventh. Wiley doubled to left-centre with one out and scored when Darvill was charged with an error at second base on a groundball hit by Massey. Massey eventually scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

O'Brien took a no-decision, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits in six and one-third innings. O'Brien walked one, struck out two, and retired the leadoff batter in six of the seven innings that he started.

David Holman started for Kansas City and also took a no-decision. Holman allowed four earned runs on 10 hits over five and one-third. Holman walked one and struck out two.

Kyle Lotzkar recorded two outs in relief of O'Brien, both of them strikeouts.
