Chicago Dogs News Release
Kansas City, Kansas. - The Dogs struck out 15 times and were shutout for just the second time this season, as they fell 4-0 Friday night to the Kansas City T-Bones in the opener of a three-game series at T-Bones Stadium.
Chicago starter Trevor Simms pitched five effective innings, allowing two runs on three hits, but was bested by Kansas City starter Tommy Collier. Collier tossed seven scoreless frames, striking out 11 Dogs and scattering six hits, en route to his sixth victory of the season.
Kansas City scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning thanks to two straight singles and a stolen base. Noah Perio Jr. started the rally with a base knock and then advanced to third on an Adrian Nieto single. With Alay Lago at the plate and one out, Nieto broke for second, and was caught in a run-down. Perio Jr. subsequently broke for home and slid in safely ahead of the tag.
The two teams would remain scoreless until the T-Bones tallied single insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. An RBI walk drawn by Colin Walsh, and an RBI single from Mason Davis helped to ice the victory for Kansas City.
Edwin Arroyo turned in his second consecutive impressive game at the plate for the Dogs, going 3-4 with the lone extra-base hit of the night for Chicago-an eighth inning double. Rubi Silva extended his hitting streak to eight games with a first-inning infield single.
Kaohi Downing made his return to the mound for Chicago. Pitching for the first time since July 4, Downing allowed a run on two hits, and recorded four outs.
With the loss, Chicago falls to 25-39 on the season, while Kansas City moves to 42-22 on the year with the win.
The Dogs and T-Bones will resume their three-game set Saturday night as Chicago left-hander Kylin Turnbull opposes Hunter Adkins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts/ with the Crowne Plaza Pregame Show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
