Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired outfielder Dexter Kjerstad from the Kansas City T-Bones on Friday in exchange for a player to be named later.

Kjerstad (pronounced KUR-stad) hit .252 with four home runs and 30 RBI in 57 games for the T-Bones this season. The Amarillo, Texas native finished 2017 in Kansas City where he batted .379 in 17 contests.

Kjerstad signed with the Kansas City Royals as a non-drafted free agent in 2014. After parts of two seasons in the Royals' system, Kjerstad finished 2015 in the American Association with the Amarillo Thunderheads. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound outfielder hit .300 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI in 45 games for Amarillo, and has his contract purchased by the Miami Marlins that off-season. The Marlins assigned Kjerstad to the prestigious Arizona Fall League in 2016, and the 26-year-old reached the Triple-A level for three games last year.

Kjerstad earned All-Sun Belt Conference honours following his senior season at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Lafayette, Louisiana) in 2013.

Kjerstad is expected to join the Goldeyes Saturday. The Goldeyes active roster now stands at 22 players.

The Goldeyes open a three-game series at home tonight against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. First pitch at Shaw Park is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Goldeyes' home games are on sale now by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca/Goldeyes, or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the box office at Shaw Park.
