Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (29-37) lost 4-0 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Shaw Park on Friday night.
Brennan Metzger led off the game with a walk and scored on a triple down the right field line from Devan Ahart. Leobaldo Pina followed with a groundout to shortstop that scored Ahart to make it 2-0.
In the top of the third, Fargo-Moorhead loaded the bases with no outs and took a 3-0 lead when Pina grounded into an unconventional double play. Matt McCann fielded Pina's one-hopper and flipped to second to force out Ahart. Tucker Nathans then threw to third, initiating a rundown play that resulted in Goldeyes' starter Alex Boshers tagging out Metzger. Derrick Fox scored on the double play.
Tim Colwell bunted for a single leading off the top of the seventh and was sacrificed to second by Fox. Two batters later, Ahart lined a single to right-centre that scored Colwell with the RedHawks' fourth run.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the ninth, Nathans singled and Josh Mazzola reached on an error to extend the inning. Left-hander Anthony Pacillo relieved RedHawks' starter Brandon Barker and struck out Grant Heyman to end the game. Pacillo earned his first save of the year having entered the game with the tying run on deck.
Barker (2-2) picked up the win for the RedHawks (35-28), holding the Goldeyes scoreless for eight and two-thirds innings. Barker walked one and struck out four. Beginning with the final out in the second, Barker retired 10 straight batters, and 20 of the next 22.
Boshers (3-7) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six innings. Boshers walked three and struck out one.
Cameron McVey pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the top of the ninth.
The series continues Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. Mitchell Lambson (5-2, 3.24) faces right-hander Trey McNutt (3-6, 5.56). Tickets for all Goldeyes' home games are on sale now by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca/Goldeyes, or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the box office at Shaw Park.
