Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers fell behind early as the Memphis Redbirds scored six runs through the first three innings on the way to an 8-3 win against the Dodgers Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Dodgers (22-8) suffered their most lopsided loss of the season as they dropped back-to-back home games for the first time this season.
Memphis (21-12) hit seven extra-base hits, including three homers, in the series opener between the teams. The Redbirds' extra-base hits total was the highest by an Oklahoma City opponent this season and their three homers tied the season high for an OKC opponent.
The Dodgers fell to 15-2 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark after Memphis built a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Luke Voit lined a double to center field to bring home two runs. Patrick Wisdom later connected a one-out RBI single for a three-run lead.
In the second inning, Memphis' Tyler O'Neill hammered a two-run homer out of the stadium in left field and off the parking garage across the alley for a 5-0 lead.
Yairo Munoz led off the third inning with a solo homer out to left-center field to push Memphis' lead to 6-0.
The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning.
Danny Espinosa, who signed with the Dodgers earlier this week, homered past Oklahoma City's bullpen in left-center field for the Dodgers' first run of the night.
The Redbirds hit their third homer of the game when Oscar Mercado connected on a two-run shot out to left field in the sixth inning for an 8-1 Memphis advantage.
Breyvic Valera led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk for Oklahoma City and scored on a RBI single by Rob Segedin to cut Memphis' lead to 8-2.
OKC's Kyle Garlick homered into the Dodgers' bullpen in the bottom of the ninth inning to cut Memphis' lead to 8-3.
Memphis starting pitcher Sean Gilmartin (2-1) picked up the win, holding the Dodgers to one run and six hits over 5.0 innings with one walk and two strikeouts.
Guillermo Moscoso (1-1) was charged with his first loss of the season, allowing a season-high six runs and six hits over 5.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
Tuesday marked the third time the Dodgers have suffered back-to-back losses overall this season.
After a quick turnaround, OKC's four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds continues at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday on a Field Trip Day at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Live coverage begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
