Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers designated hitter Frank Schwindel smashed three hits and drove in three runs, while New Orleans second baseman Eric Campbell collected four knocks, including the go-ahead run-scoring single as part of a three-run tenth frame in the Baby Cakes' 6-4 win over Omaha on Monday evening at Werner Park.
Campbell's base hit to center in the extra frame broke the 3-3 draw before New Orleans plate two more tallies. Schwindel drove home the final of his three runs via an RBI single to center in the last of the tenth, however the Storm Chasers were unable to draw the game any closer.
Schwindel bookended Omaha's scoring, giving the home squad an early 2-0 advantage with a first-inning two-run double to left. An RBI groundout then capped the Storm Chasers' three-run spurt. Baby Cakes 3B Jon Rodriguez later clubbed a two-run homer in the fifth to narrow the score to 3-2, prior to a game-tying infield single off the bat of 1B Tomas Telis .
In addition to Campbell (4-5, R, RBI) and Rodriguez (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) , CF Magneuris Sierra (2-5, R) also recorded a multi-hit effort. Schwindel was joined by SS Adalberto Mondesi (2-5, SB), LF Jack Lopez (2-5, R) and C Cam Gallagher (2-5, 2B) in posting two or more knocks. Schwindel with his three RBI has now driven in a team-best 25 runs in 2018, tying him for fifth in the Pacific Coast League.
Neither New Orleans starter Dillon Peters (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K), nor Omaha's Scott Barlow (4.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K) factored in the final decisions. Peters settled down after the first frame to retire ten consecutive batters at one point. Baby Cakes reliever Sean Burnett (0.2 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, K) earned the win and Jumbo Diaz (0.2 IP, H) notched his fifth save, while Storm Chasers righty Brandon Maurer (2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat.
Omaha continues their eight-game homestand by starting a four-game series with the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday evening at Werner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT. RHP Kyle Lohse (0-0, 11.25) is expected to toe the rubber for the Storm Chasers, with the I-Cubs slated to send LHP Michael Roth (0-2, 3.42) to the hill.
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
