Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers third baseman Hunter Dozier drove in two runs, however Iowa scored runs in five consecutive frames, eight Cubs batters tallied hits, and starter Michael Roth yielded two hits in six frames as part of an 8-4 win over Omaha on Tuesday evening at Werner Park.
Iowa struck for two in both the second and third frames courtesy of RBI singles from CF Jacob Hannemann and LF Wynton Bernard in the former, before DH Efren Navarro's two-run blast in the latter inning extended the early advantage to four. After a single tally in the fourth, SS Ryan Court smashed a two-run double to center in the following frame to increase the margin to 6-0. Omaha then took advantage of a wild pitch to end the I-Cubs' shutout thoughts in the bottom of the fifth.
After Iowa plated their final run in the eighth, Dozier lined a two-run single to center to slice the deficit to 8-3. Omaha then capitalized on a Cubs error for their final score of the contest, with the tying run in the on-deck circle at the conclusion.
Dozier (2-4, 2 RBI) was the lone Storm Chasers batter with a multi-hit effort, while Iowa 1B Bjian Rademacher (3-5, R, 2B) posted a game-best three knocks. Bernard (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI), RF Mark Zagunis (2-5, R, 2B, RBI) and 3B Stephen Bruno (2-5, 2 R) each added two hits apiece for the Cubs.
Roth (6.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K) earned his first victory after yielding a lone earned run on two hits, adding five punchouts. Iowa reliever Zach Hedges (3.0 IP, 4H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K) notched the three-inning save, while Storm Chasers starter Kyle Lohse (4.2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat. Omaha righty Josh Staumont (2.0 IP, 3 BB, K) fired 2.0 hitless innings of relief in support of Lohse as well.
The two teams are set to square off next in a Wednesday matinee at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. CT. RHP Trevor Oaks (2-2, 3.38) is slated to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with former Storm Chasers pitcher RHP Alec Mills (0-4, 5.20) expected to toe the rubber for Iowa.
