ROUND ROCK, TX - The Iowa Cubs (8-21) shattered a tie game in the ninth as they squeezed out a 6-5 victory over the Round Rock Express (11-21), Monday at Dell Diamond.

Iowa wasted no time, getting a three-run home run from Bijan Rademacher in the first inning, but the edge didn't last. Cameron Rupp duplicated the effort in the second with a three-run shot to tie the game.

Round Rock worked a 5-3 lead in the fourth with a two-RBI double from Scott Heineman, but the I-Cubs quickly fought back. Chesny Young led off the fifth with a walk, stole second and scored on a Mike Freeman double. Freeman moved to third on a groundout and darted home on a wild pitch to knot the game for the second time.

Iowa executed in the ninth to earn its first victory of the season when tied or trailing after eight. Chris Gimenez sparked the drive with a leadoff double and was replaced by a speedy Wynton Bernard on the bases. Bernard scored easily on a single from Young and Iowa captured the lasting lead.

Filling in for scheduled starter Jen-Ho Tseng who was a late scratch tonight, Iowa's bullpen collaborated for a solid effort. On the back end, Randy Rosario, Justin Hancock and Dillon Maples combined for 5.0 shutout innings. Hancock (2-2) came away with the win, and Maples (2) the save.

Iowa travels to Omaha to begin a four-game series at Werner Park, starting with a 6:35 p.m. CT first pitch tomorrow. Tune in on AM 940, www.iowacubs.com or MiLB.TV.
