Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: Former World Series Champion Clay Buchholz will make his Aces debut tonight against the Albuquerque Isotopes. The Aces have won five of their last six contests at Greater Nevada Field with their lone loss coming yesterday afternoon. Buchholz is making his fourth start of the 2018 season. He made one start with North West Arkansas and two with the Omaha Storm Chasers. Tonight kicks off a four-game series against the Isotopes and games 5 through 8 of the 12-game homestand.
About Last Night: The Reno Aces could not extend their winning streak to six, losing yesterday afternoon by a score of 3-1. Taylor Clarke got the nod for Greg Gross Monday. The right-hander went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. Offensively, the Aces were held in check by Tacoma lefty Roenis Elias (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 4 K). The loss dropped Reno to a record of 13-19, but the Aces did capture the series over Tacoma 3-1.
Clay Day: Clay Buchholz was drafted in the first round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft out of Angelina College in Lufkin, TX. The 33-year-old right-hander has appeared in 2008 Major League games, starting 190 of them and tossing 1,175.0 innings. Buchholz has been a Major League All-Star two times (2010 and 2013) and took home the Performance of the Year in 2007 with Boston, becoming the first Red Sox rookie to throw a no-hitter in just his second career start.
Can't Touch Me: Jake Barrett has been dominant this season, allowing opponents to bat just .093 in 43 AB's. Barrett's success puts him tied for the league-lead in Avg. against. Last season with Reno, Barrett held opponents to a .225 clip and finished with a 4.91 ERA with three saves.
Reno's 150th Birthday: Tickets are available for "The Biggest Little Birthday" Reno 150 celebration and Aces game on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Greater Nevada Field. The event starts at 4:00 p.m., and gates open at 5:00 p.m. The year-long celebration will come to an end at Greater Nevada Field with all tickets being FREE. History Made: The Reno Aces Baseball Club has named Emily Jaenson General manager, the team announced today. Jaenson is the second person to hold the role of General Manager for the Aces, and the first female GM in the Pacific Coast League in nearly two decades. Jaenson will assume day-to-day baseball and business operations and report to team President, Eric Edelstein.
Sherf Save: Jimmie Sherfy collected his sixth save of the season Saturday night. Sherfy is the Aces all-time saves leader with 38. The University of Oregon closer is 6-for-6 this season and has made 10 total appearances. Sherfy has 72 saves in his Minor League career and one Major League save.
