Louisville Bats News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Louisville Bats (9-17) lost their sixth straight game on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, by a 2-1 score against the Norfolk Tides. The Tides (16-11) completed the four-game sweep, the first the Bats have been swept in Norfolk since the 2009 season.

Louisville scored first in the game, which is starting to become a theme, on a D.J. Peterson solo home run in the top of the fourth inning, his first home run of the season.

Bats starting pitcher, right-hander Robert Stephenson (1-4, 4.40) got the loss but pitched well, going 7.0 innings and giving up two earned runs on two hits and one home run, walking two and striking out nine on 102 pitches, 70 for strikes.

Stephenson's second quality start of the season was not enough for a quiet Bats offense in the series finale, as Joey Rickard's two-run home run for Norfolk in the bottom of the sixth was enough to put the Bats away. Former Bat and today's starter for Norfolk, right-hander Tim Melville (4-0, 2.86) went 6.0 innings and got the win, giving up one earned run on five hits and the Peterson homer, walking one and striking out one.

Brandon Dixon was one of the few bright spots on offense besides Peterson's home run, going 3-for-5. Dixon is now batting .329 for Louisville on the season.

Louisville drops to a nearly unprecedented 5-11 when scoring first in a ballgame, now dropping each of its last two games in that fashion, and sixth straight game overall.

The Bats return home tomorrow to begin a seven-game homestand against the Indianapolis Indians and Toledo Mud Hens. Louisville will go with right-hander Jackson Stephens (1-1, 5.04) while Indianapolis will throw right-hander Austin Coley (1-1, 10.05) with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Louisville Slugger Field.
