Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs were swept in a four-game series in Buffalo after falling 6-1 to the Buffalo Bisons Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons used a five-run second inning to push their way to victory. Mark Reynolds had two hits for the Chiefs in the loss.
Buffalo (11-10) scored first for the fourth day in a row, becoming the first team to get to Austin Voth who had been stellar all season for Syracuse. Danny Jansen walked, Rowdy Tellez singled, and Reese McGuire walked to load the bases with no-one out. Darnell Sweeney then hit a two-run single into left-center to give the Bisons a 2-0 lead. After a strikeout, Roemon Fields followed with a two-run single of his own to extend the lead to four. Two batters later, Dwight Smith, Jr. capped off the inning with a single to plate Fields for a 5-0 lead.
Syracuse (14-13) would get on the board in the eighth inning after loading the bases against Sam Moll after Irving Falu singled, Hunter Jones singled and Mark Reynolds walked. Jose Marmolejos then drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 5-1.
The Bisons added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on Sweeney's RBI double with two outs against Austin Adams.
After a 15-game stretch where the Chiefs played 13 on the road, Syracuse will finally spend some time at home, opening a seven-game homestand Monday night, starting with a three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. RHP Erick Fedde is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite LHP Daniel Camarena for the RailRiders. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
