
Diaz, Quijada to New Orleans; Gonzalez, Holmes to Jacksonville

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Birmingham Barons at Regions Field at 8:05 p.m. eastern.
Right-handed starting pitcher Merandy Gonzalez has been transferred from Jacksonville's disabled list to the active roster. Gonzalez had been on the disabled list since May 14 with a blister on his right hand, which was injured in his start that day at Montgomery. That his first start since returning to Jacksonville from the Miami Marlins bullpen. With the Marlins, Gonzalez pitched in six games, going 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA in his time on the mound. Gonzalez started his season in Jacksonville, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in just two starts before he was called up to the big leagues on April 19.
In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Jose Quijada has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Quijada pitched in 17 games with four saves, going 0-2 with a 2.42 ERA, striking out 29 batters in 22 and a third innings of work.
Infielder Chris Diaz has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Diaz with Jacksonville has played in 39 games, hitting .194 with seven runs batted in. Diaz played in three games for the Baby Cakes, hitting .091 (1-for-11) with a run batted in.
Additionally, left-handed relief pitcher Ben Holmes has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Holmes pitched in just one game for the Hammerheads, working a scoreless inning on May 30 against the St. Lucie Mets. Holmes was originally selected by the Marlins in the ninth round of the 2014 draft out of Oregon State, and this is the first call-up to the Double-A level in his career.
The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, plus Brett Graves on his rehab assignment from the Miami Marlins, and a revised roster is attached.
The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series in Birmingham at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday. The Jumbo Shrimp return home for a 10-game homestand beginning Friday, June 8, against the Biloxi Shuckers. Fans may visit any participating NAPA AutoCare Center to get a FREE general admission ticket (reserved seat upgrade available at the box office) for the game that concludes with NAPA AutoCare Family Fireworks. The Jumbo Shrimp wear red "Bold City" jerseys to support the military on Red Shirt Friday, when fans who wear red can save $1 per ticket at the box office or donate the $1 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Friday Night Lites Miller Lite Happy Hour offers $1 12-oz. Miller Lite and $1 off craft beer specials in the Craft Cave by the third-base gates until 7:30 p.m. The game is presented by 99.9 Gator Country.
