Montgomery Biscuits News Release

PEARL, Mis. - Genesis Cabrera (5-3) struck out a career-high 12 batters over seven shutout innings and the Biscuits (28-29) blanked the Mississippi Braves (25-32) for a second-straight night, 3-0, on Monday evening at Trustmark Park. Montgomery has now won 4-straight games, and their pitchers have held opponents scoreless for 23-consecutive scoreless innings.

Cabrera was making his 12th start and although he allowed two singles (and a near two-run home run by Tyler Marlette that sliced just foul down the left field line) in the first, the lefty still fanned a pair getting Connor Lien and Alex Jackson through a scoreless first frame.

Cabrera, who matched a career-high with nine strikeouts in his previous outing on Wednesday against Jackson, would ring up two batters in every inning but the fifth against his counterpart Touki Toussaint (2-6).

Toussaint kept the Biscuits off the board through the first four innings, and retired the first two batters in the fifth before allowing a single to Nick Solak. The Biscuits left fielder then stole second, and the throw on the steal by M-Braves catcher Carlos Martinez that trickled into center put Solak at third. Brandon Lowe then punched a Texas Leaguer into left field to score the only run the Biscuits would require for a two-out RBI-single.

The M-Braves nearly tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. After a two-out RBI-double by Daniel Lockhart, Luis Marte hit a groundball base hit into right that brought the Mississippi third baseman to the plate. But Nathan Lukes uncorked a laser beam of a throw to catcher Brett Sullivan to nail Lockhart at the plate to end the inning.

Cabrera reached double digits in strikeouts for the first time in his career when he punched out Travis Demeritte in the sixth, and then set a new career-high when he got Martinez swinging as the final batter in the seventh.

Sullivan added some insurance with a two-run single in the eighth, and the Biscuits got a scoreless inning of relief each from Jordan Harrison and Cody Hall, who notched a save in his Montgomery debut.

The Biscuits will try to make it five in a row on Tuesday night when Sam McWilliams (0-2) clashes with Bryse Wilson (1-1) at 7:00 PM.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium on Friday, June 8, as they welcome the Chattanooga Lookouts for Ladies Night and MAX Fireworks. The series also includes Wizard Night, featuring a jersey auction and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 9, as well as Sundae Sunday Ice Cream Social on June 10. The five-game set concludes with Agriculture Night on Monday, June 11, and Summer Splash Day on Tuesday, June 12.
