Mobile BayBears News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, let a two-run lead slip away but rallied with four runs in the ninth to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-4 Monday night at AT&T Field.
After back-to-back hits against Williams Ramirez (2-2) to put runners on second and third, Luis Rengifo plated a run with a groundout and Brennon Lund tied the game with a bloop single. Two batters later, Jared Walsh gave the BayBears (30-26) a 6-4 lead with a two-run homer to right field. It was his third long ball with Mobile and 16th of the season.
Luis Pena pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and did not allow a hit until a pair of fifth-inning singles. He walked two batters and struck out six. Pena has only allowed one run in his last three starts, spanning 17 1/3 innings. Tyler Stevens (1-0) earned the win, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to finish the game.
Despite taking a 2-0 lead into the seventh, Chattanooga (33-24) came back with four runs on four hits and two walks in the frame.
Rengifo had four hits in the game, just one shy of his career-high, with two RBIs and a run scored. Lund went 3-for-5, while Zach Gibbons and Riley Unroe both had their second straight multi-hit games. Unroe scored twice and Gibbons drove in a run.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Chattanooga Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez (4-5, 4.31 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Sean Poppen (0-1, 5.79 ERA) for the Lookouts. Live coverage can be heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
