JACKSON, TENN. - Sometimes, you really can win twice at once. The Jackson Generals-with a three-run blast from Domingo Leyba and some strong pitching from Shelby Miller-reeled in a pair of wins over the Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday, moving within one game of first place in the Southern League's North Division. Shelley Duncan's club won the pair to stay unbeaten in double-headers this season, taking a 2-1 series lead against third-place Tennessee.

GAME 1 - Generals 10, Tennessee 7 (Completion of April 15's suspended game)

With a 4-3 lead in the top-of-the-fourth inning restart, the Generals put another run on the board immediately with singles from Domingo Leyba, Jamie Westbrook, and Rudy Flores. The dagger came in the fifth, as Leyba, batting with two outs and the pitcher's spot next to hit, crushed a three-run homer over the right field fence to make the lead 8-3 Generals. Leyba finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs scored, 3 RBI, and six total bases, as Jackson went 5-for-16 overall with men in scoring position.

Sam Lewis picked up where Yuhei Nakaushiro had left off in April's game and carried the flag forward for three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and picking up the victory. Gabe Speier collected a hold in relief, while Yoan Lopez punched in two scoreless innings of work to earn the save.

GAME 2 - Generals 2, Tennessee 1 (F/7)

For the first time during the Jackson Generals' player development partnership with Arizona, The Ballpark at Jackson welcomed a rehabbing Major Leaguer, and his presence played a big role in a Generals victory. Right-hander Shelby Miller, working his way back from Tommy John surgery in May 2017, started for Jackson and finished 4.2 innings, allowed four hits, one run and four walks while striking out six Tennessee Smokies. Miller walked the leadoff hitter in both the first and the second inning, but he gained traction with every out, departing with a man on base in the fourth inning. Kirby Bellow was unable to secure an out against Smokies slugger Jason Vosler, but Kevin Ginkel entered in his place and struck out three of the four innings he faced. Daniel Gibson finished the one-run win with a 24-pitch save, preserving the game for Jackson's 32nd win of the season.

Offensively, Jackson had a right-place-right-time sort of night, netting two runs on a season-low two hits. Jose Vinicio and Domingo Leyba each had a hit, with Leyba's coming as part of Jackson's fruitful third inning. Following a leadoff walk from Shelby Miller and a flyout from Daniel Robertson, Leyba singled to move Miller into scoring position. A deep flyout to center field by Rudy Flores allowed Miller and Leyba to tag up and advance to third and second, respectively, setting up Jamie Westbrook with an RBI opportunity in a two-out situation. Westbrook grounded a ball to Tennessee shortstop Trent Giambrone, and an air-mailed throw to first base allowed both Miller and Leyba to come around to score to put the Generals in front. The Generals are now 10-9 in one-run games in the 2018 campaign.
