Diablos Rally From Five Runs Down To Beat Wichita, Even Series

EL PASO, TX- The Diablos erased an early 8-3 deficit to the Wichita Wingnuts, scoring the next 11 runs of the game to win game two of the series by a final score of 14-9.

The big inning for the Diablos was the eighth. In the top half, Wichita loaded the bases with nobody out, but reliever Justin Harper (4-1) induced a pop-up and a double play ball toe escape the inning unscathed. Then, in the bottom half, the Diablos scored six times off reliever Jared Simon, with RBI's from Maikol Gonzalez, Fernando Valenzuela and Zane Chavez pacing the big frame.

The comeback trail began in the fourth, when Daniel Nelson and J.J. Muse each knocked in runs with productive outs to pull the Diablos to within thee. Reid Fronk's RBI single in the sixth got the Diablos even closer, and Fernando Valenzuela Jr.'s RBI hit in the seventh tied the score at eight.

Scott Hodsdon was not his normal sharp self but settled down after a rocky beginning to pitch into the eighth inning for the seventh time in 2012. Hodsdon departed after letting the leadoff runner reach in the top half of the eighth.

The Diablos overcame a poor defensive day (four errors) and a relentless Wichita attack (17 hits for the second consecutive day) to move back a game over .500 and within a game of first place with 13 games to be played over the next two weeks.

The rubber match of the series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start on Thursday, with Luis Chirinos taking the hill for El Paso.
