
Explorers win 3-2 over Kansas City

Sioux City-----Adrian Martinez hit a lead-off walk-off home in the ninth to give the Explorers a 3-2 over Kansas City here Tuesday. The Martinez home run came on a three-one pitch off losing pitcher Josh Rainwater. It was Martinez's second walk-off home run this season with the first one coming on July 31st at Lewis and Clark Park in the 11th inning over Gary Southshore. Kansas City took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Explorers came back to score an un-earned run in the bottom of the third and then tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning on a single by Martinez. The contest remained tied until the lead off home in the ninth by Martinez as the Explorers won the first game of the three-game series with Kansas City. Wally Backman, Jr. had a double in the first inning to extended his hitting streak to 18 games, matching Brandon Newton's 18-game hitting streak for the longest hitting streak of the season by an Explorer player. Ray Serrano also had a double in the fourth inning to extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Serrano scored the tying run in the fourth inning. Andrew Snowdon, in relief of starter Jason Jarvis, pitched the ninth inning to record the win. The Explorers and Kansas City will meet in the second game of the series Wednesday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05.
