Fort Worth Cats News Release

EL PASO - Jeff Vincent's bases-clearing eighth-inning triple lifted the Diablos to a 5-4 win over the Cats on Sunday night in the regular-season finale at Cohen Stadium.

With the loss, the Cats take a final record of 53-43 into the first round of the American Association playoffs beginning on Tuesday at LaGrave Field.

The Cats took a 2-0 lead in the second as Michael Bell led off with a single and then scored on a Ryan Patterson RBI double. One out later, Isa Garcia collected his fourth RBI in the last three nights with a run-scoring single.

Fort Worth made it 4-0 in the third inning on a John Allen RBI double and an RBI single by Bell.

In the bottom of the fourth, Diablos' shortstop Arnoldo Ponce tripled with one out and came home to score on a Juan Camacho RBI single. They cut the lead in half in the sixth when Kennard Bibbs tripled to start the inning and scored on a Jonathan Reynoso sacrifice fly.

In the eighth, David Washington reached on an error to lead off the inning. The next batter struck out before Reynoso singled. After a fly ball to center and a Camacho walk, Vincent tripled off the left-field wall, scoring all three runners for the Diablos' first lead of the game.

Mike Cervera allowed a hit but nothing else in the ninth inning to record his ninth save of the season. Chris Luera, who threw a scoreless eighth inning, notched the victory to improve to 2-0.

Gary Lee (0-3), who permitted three unearned runs in the eighth, suffers the loss in relief for the Cats. Starter Nat Harris received no decision after giving up two runs on nine hits in seven innings of work.

The Cats return home to begin a best-of-five playoff series with the Pensacola Pelicans beginning at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.
