Wichita's Porter Named Player Of The Year

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Wichita Wingnuts OF Greg Porter was selected by the league managers and media as the 2009 Player of the Year.

Porter has been outstanding for the Wingnuts this season. The resident of Roanoke, TX is currently batting .375 with 21 home runs, 86 RBI and 140 hits. Porter leads the league in five different offensive categories which includes batting average, hits, on-base percentage (.456), slugging percentage (.622) and extra base hits (48). He is tied for first in home runs.

The 29-year-old has won the Batter of the Week award four times this season as well as the Meyvn Baseball Company's June Batter of the Month. He was also named a starter for the North Division in the 2009 All-Star Game at Grand Prairie and was recently selected to the Postseason All-Star Team.

Porter was selected in the 45th round of the 2001 draft by the Los Angeles of Anaheim. He played seven seasons in the Angels organization. Porter split time in 2008 with the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees (New York Yankess - Triple A) and the Columbus Clippers (Washington Nationals - Triple A).
