Devils Sign Goaltender Johan Hedberg

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed veteran goaltender Johan Hedberg to a contract. The announcement was made by Devils' President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy no further terms were disclosed.

"Johan Hedberg is a goaltender with more than eight years of NHL experience, including a significant amount of time in the Eastern Conference," said Lamoriello. "He solidifies our goaltending for the upcoming season."

Hedberg, 37, has a career mark of 123-114-29 with 14 shutouts and 2.93 goals-against average in 293 career games over eight-plus NHL seasons with Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Dallas, and Atlanta. He saw action in 47 games with the Thrashers in 2009-10 posting a 21-16-6 mark with three shutouts and 2.62 goals-against average. The 6-0, 190-lb. netminder has also appeared in 22 career post-season contests. He made his North American debut in 1997-98 with Detroit (IHL), Baton Rouge (ECHL), and Manitoba (IHL) before making his NHL debut with the Penguins on March 16, 2001. Hedberg represented Sweden at the 1998 and 2002 Olympic Winter Games, 1996 World Cup, and four World Championships. He was born May 5, 1973 in Leksand, Swe., and returned to his hometown team for the 2004-05 season where he also played from 1992-97. Hedberg was Philadelphia's eighth choice and 218th overall selection in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
