Devils Sign Defensemen Henrik Tallinder & Anton Volchenkov

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed free agent defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Anton Volchenkov to multi-year contracts. The announcement was made by Devils' President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.

"Henrik Tallinder and Anton Volchenkov are proven veteran performers who bring size and strength to our hockey club," said Lamoriello.

Tallinder, 31, will enter his eighth National Hockey League season and ninth year in North America. He has 20 goals and 88 assists for 108 points and 278 penalty minutes in 468 career games, all with Buffalo. The 6-3, 215 lb. defenseman appeared in a career-high 82 games last season (also 2005-06), recording four goals and 16 assists for 20 points and 32 penalty minutes. He also has two goals and ten assists for 12 points and 28 penalty minutes in 36 career playoff games. Tallinder spent the 2004-05 campaign with both Linkoping HC (Swe.) and Bern (Swi.). He joined Rochester (AHL) in 2001-02, before making his NHL debut April 12, 2002. Born January 10, 1979 in Stockholm, Sweden, he was Buffalo's second choice, and 48th overall selection in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, and appeared in the 2003 NHL YoungStars Game. He spent the 2000-01 season with TPS Turku (Fin.) and three-plus seasons with AIK Solna (Swe.).

Volchenkov, 28, completed his seventh NHL season in 2009-10, all with Ottawa. He has career totals of 16 goals and 78 assists for 94 points and 297 penalty minutes in 428 games. The 6-1, 225-lb. defenseman posted four goals and ten assists for 14 points and 38 penalty minutes in 64 games last season. He also has three goals and 12 assists for 15 points and 48 penalty minutes in 61 career post- season appearances. Volchenkov saw action in 69 games with Binghamton (AHL) in 2004-05, marking the only minor league action of his pro career. He also represented Russia at the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Born February 25, 1982 in Moscow, Russia, he was Ottawa's first choice and 21st overall selection in 2000. Prior to his North American career, he played with both HK Moscow and Krylja Sovetov (Rus.).
