
Canadiens Sign Curtis Sanford and Frederic St-Denis to One-Year Contracts

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the signing of goaltender Curtis Sanford and defenceman Frederic St-Denis to one-year contracts (2010-2011). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Sanford, 30, played in 41 games with the Bulldogs last season with a record of 23-11-3 while posting four shutouts along with a 2.13 goals-against-average and .916 save percentage. The native of Owen Sound, Ontario also held a record of 5-4 with two shutouts, a 2.02 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage in nine post-season games with the 'Dogs. In 108 NHL regular season games, Sanford has recorded 37 wins, including five shutouts, while maintaining a 2.76 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound netminder has played a total of 213 AHL regular season games recording 100 wins including 18 shutouts and maintaining a 2.33 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. Last season, Sanford and fellow Bulldogs goaltender Cedrick Desjardins were awarded the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award which is presented to the goaltenders on the team which allows the fewest goals in the regular season.
St-Denis, 24, played in 59 games with Hamilton last season recording 17 points (three goals 14 assists) and 38 penalty minutes. The native of Greenfield Park, Quebec also recorded an assist and 20 penalty minutes in 19 post-season games with the 'Dogs. In 2008-2009, St-Denis recorded 23 points (one goal, 22 assists) in 41 games as a member of the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones while also posting a goal and an assist in seven games with Hamilton. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defenceman tallied 155 points (44 goals, 111 assists) in 285 games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL from 2002-2007. He also suited up with the University of Quebec in the CIS in 2007-2008 where he amassed 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 28 games. St-Denis had signed an AHL contract with the Bulldogs as a free agent on September 27, 2008.
