Albany Devils News Release
Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed forward Blake Coleman to a two- year, entry-level contract. The announcement was made by Devils' General Manager Ray Shero.
Coleman, 23, joins the Devils' organization after four collegiate seasons at Miami University of Ohio (NCHC). In 2014-15, Coleman ranked third on the Red Hawks with a career-high 20g-17a-37pts in 37 games, led the club with 99 penalty minutes, was second with a +16 mark and served as an alternate captain. He was named NCHC Tournament MVP after recording 7g-5a-12pts, including all three Miami goals for his second career hat trick in the NCHC Finals over St. Cloud State on Mar. 21. The native of Plano, TX was also named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 2, totaling 3g-1a-4pts over two appearances. In 2013, he earned NCAA All- Midwest Regional honors with 1g-2a-3pts in two games. Coleman totaled 60g-47a-107pts and 276 PIM in 143 appearances during his NCAA career.
The 5-11, 200-lb. center's junior career included stints with Indiana (USHL) and Tri-City (USHL). In 2010-11, Coleman was named USHL Player of the Year after leading the league with 58 assists and 92 points and captaining the Ice to a playoff berth. The 92 points were 17 more than anyone else in the league and the most in over a decade. He was also chosen as the USHL Forward of the Year, was named to the league's First All- Star Team and was selected to play in the mid-season All-Star Game. In addition, Coleman received USA Hockey's Junior Player of the Year Award that season.
Coleman, New Jersey's second choice (third round) and the 75th overall selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, will attend his first NHL training camp in September.
