Florida Panthers Sign Gaunce, Regner to Two-Way NHL Contracts

Portland, ME - The Florida Panthers, NHL affiliate of the Portland Pirates, today announced the signing of defenseman Cameron Gaunce to a one-year, two-way NHL contract. Today, the Panthers also announced the signing of defenseman Brent Regner to a two-year, two-way NHL contract.

"The additions of Gaunce and Regner help to further strengthen our organization's blue line," said Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon. "Gaunce is a strong, hardworking, physical defenseman and Regner is a responsible, mobile two-way defenseman who can play both on the power play and penalty kill."

Gaunce, a 6-foot-1, 210 pound defenseman from Markham, Ontario, joins the Panthers organization from the AHL's Texas Stars. The 25 year-old scored four goals and 10 assists for 14 points last season with Texas.

He was a member of the Stars' 2014 Calder Cup championship team, scoring three goals, 15 assists, and 18 points in 65 regular season games in 2013-14. Gaunce also played nine games that season for the NHL's Dallas Stars.

Entering his sixth pro season, Gaunce played was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the Second Round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played 11 games for the Avalanche in 2010-11. He also played for Colorado's AHL team, the Lake Erie Monsters, from 2010-13. Prior to turning pro, Gaunce played three seasons with the OHL's Mississauga St. Michaels Majors.

Regner, a 6-foot, 188 pound defenseman, played 71 games for the AHL's Chicago Wolves last season, scoring six goals and 23 assists for 29 points. The 26 year-old also led the Wolves in plus/minus in 2014-15 with a plus-21 rating.

Entering his seventh pro season, Regner played two seasons with Chicago. He also played in the AHL for Peoria River men, Springfield Falcons, and Syracuse Crunch. Selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Fifth Round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Regner played four seasons with the WHL's Vancouver Giants, including a Memorial Cup title in 2007.
