
Iowa Wild Signs Maxime Fortunus to a Two-Year AHL Deal

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Wild on Wednesday announced the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed defenseman Maxime Fortunus (Max-EEM, FOR-tune-us) to a two-year AHL contract.
Fortunus, 31 (7/28/83), enters his 12th pro season this fall and is a veteran of over 800 pro games between the NHL and AHL. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has played in 698 regular season AHL games for the Texas Stars, Manitoba Moose and Houston Aeros. The La Prairie, PQ native has scored 64 goals and added 178 assists for 242 AHL career points. More importantly, the veteran blueliner has three trips to the AHL's Calder Cup Finals (Manitoba 09', Texas 10' and 14' (won cup)). Over the last three seasons, he served as the Captain of Texas, leading the Stars to a Calder Cup Championship in 2014. That same year - Texas also finished with the best regular season record in the AHL. During his three seasons as captain in Texas, the team made the playoffs all three years and compiled a record of 131-62-21-14. He also brings 117 games of Calder Cup playoff experience to the Iowa Wild. In May of 2013, he became only the 16th player in AHL history to play in 100-career Calder Cup Playoff games. In 2014-15, Fortunus was selected as the Captain of the Western Conference All Stars for the AHL All Star Classic in Utica. NY.
Over the course of his career, he has played in nine NHL games - all with the Dallas Stars. Fortunus made his NHL debut with Dallas on Dec. 12, 2009 against Detroit. He leaves Texas as one of the franchise's all-time games played leaders. The 31-year old was undrafted after playing in Baie-Corneau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 1999-04.
Iowa begins its third season in the AHL this fall. The team will host Opening Night on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team's 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena.
